Waxing On, Now Waxing Off

Week six. Day one.

Today we expanded our daily routine to include APIs, namely the one from Twitter, and had a chance to get a taste of analyzing large data-sets. Brooks and I calculated the tweet-frequency of a handful of accounts and presented the results in our application. We did this during just a few hours this afternoon.

Meanwhile, two big things are on my mind today. First, software used to seem like magic to me. Not really, of course, but there was at least an incomprehensible aspect to software when I interacted with it. Now, I see more and more of the details behind the implementation. All of a sudden, parsing Twitter data to analyze isn’t some amazing feat. It’s rather involved, but straight-forward nonetheless. That’s amazing.

Second, all of us at DevBootcamp are transforming into makers. Being able to hook into various parts of the internet, pull data together, and reproduce it in new forms feels unreal. There is tremendous power and potential in what we’re doing, and it depends only upon the richness of one’s imagination. Wow.
